This beautifully decorated shield is fabricated in steel and features a split white and black bakde enamel finish over an all metal shield. The red and white cross is centered on the shield. Details of this shield include two gold plated Fleur De Lis and one gold plated gryphon head. The shield is outlined with brass banding and black metal tips.
The Knights of Jerusalem (formerly known as the Knights Hospitalers) were formed in 1113 and are known for protecting Christians on their pilgrimage to the Holy Lands. The Knights rose to become one of the most powerful military forces of the church, and their shield was recognized all throughout Europe.
