This beautifully decorated shield is fabricated in steel and features the two-headed falcon of Carlos V mounted on a satin steel finish. It is equipped with chain hangers and brackets for attaching one or two swords to the back of the shield.
Carlos V lived from 1500-1558. He was a Holy Roman emperor in 1519-1556, king of Spain in the years 1516-1556, and archduke of Austria from 1519-1521. The Holy Roman Empire came to a climax in the reign of the Emperor Carlos V. He was one of the most extraordinary monarchs that Europe has ever seen. For a time he had the reputation of being the greatest monarch since Charlemagne. In 1556 Charles abdicated all his titles and possessions and retired to a monastery in Spain.
